World Field Hockey Stars Head For Greenwich For Kids' Clinics

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Kids and coaches can learn more about playing the game of field hockey from three of the world's top players at an Aug. 6 clinic to be held at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich.

Two Australian national team members will be in attendance: Jamie Dwyer, who has been named five times as the world''s best player (2004, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011) and Mark Knowles, who was named player of the tournament at the 2014 World Cup. Knowles is captain of the Kookaburras, who stunned the host Netherlands by defeating them 6-1 on June 15 to capture the field hockey World Cup title.

The tournament's top goalie, Jaap Stockmann of the Netherlands, will also be at the clinic in Greenwich.

Session I is for kids in grades 5 through 8 and is from 10 a.m. to noon. Aug. 6. From noon through 1 p.m., Dwyer, Knowles and Stockmann will sit and talk with athletes, parents and coaches about training and nutrition. Bring your own bag lunch.

Session II is from 1 to 3 p.m. and is for kids in grades 9 through 12. Session III from 4 to 6 p.m. is called "Coach the Coaches" and is open to coaches of all levels from youth to collegiate.

Turf shoes or cleats must be worn. Mouth guards, eye gear and shin guards are required for play. Each participant must bring a field hockey stick.
