Women's Hockey League, With Stamford-based Team, Announces First TV Deal

STAMFORD, Conn. -- The National Women's Hockey League, including the Stamford-based Connecticut Whale, announced a television deal that will see some of its games on NESN, the New England Sports Network.

The four-team league that is in its first season announced NESN will broadcast eight of the Boston Pride's remaining games.

“The broadcast value of the women’s game has never been better, and we’re happy NESN is providing a stage for and shining a spotlight on some of the best players in the world,” said NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan.

The Whale will be the Pride's opponent in three of the eight games, all of which will be played at Harvard's Bright-Landry Hockey Center. The games will be broadcast on either NESN or NESNplus. The three games are Sunday, Nov. 29, on NESN; Sunday, Jan. 17 on NESN and Saturday, Feb. 14 on NESNplus. All games are at 3 p.m.

The Whale are in first place with a 4-0 record followed by Boston at 3-1, New York Riveters at 1-3 and the Buffalo Beauts at 0-4.

All of the games on the NESN schedule will also be broadcast on the NWHL’s YouTube channel via the NWHL Live: Cross Ice Pass for fans living outside the New England area.

The season began October 11 and playoffs conclude in March when the first NWHL championship team raises the Isobel Cup.
