BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Thousands of fans of women's college basketball will head for the Webster Bank Arena in downtown Bridgeport this weekend for a chance to see the hometown favorite UConn Huskies make history.
The arena is hosting the NCAA Women’s Bridgeport Regional Semifinals.
There are two games on Saturday:
- In the first game, third-seeded Maryland (32-2) plays 10th-seeded Oregon (22-13) at 11:36 a.m.
- In the second game, top-seeded Connecticut (33-0) takes on fourth-seeded UCLA (25-8) at 2 p.m.
The UConn women’s basketball owns a winning streak of 109 games and counting. The team is one win away from holding the longest winning streak ever in a college team sport.
The winners of Saturday's games will advance to the Regional Final at 7 p.m. Monday. That game will also be played at the Webster Bank Arena.
The games will also be televised on ESPN.
Parking meters throughout Bridgeport will be deactivated Saturday and again beginning at 4 p.m. Monday.
The UConn win streak of 109 games and counting began after a loss to Stanford in the fall of 2014. This streak includes two national championships.
