Brandon Wheeler scored 24 points to lead the Crusaders, who improved to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Danbury fell to 3-5 in the league and 5-4 overall.
Trinity lost to St. Joseph on Tuesday, 87-85. The Crusaders struggled to shake off the defeat and were ahead of Danbury just 40-36 late in the third quarter. They led 44-36 at the end of the quarter and outscored the Hatters 10-1 in the first four minutes of the final quarter to pull away for good.
Wheeler scored 14 in the first half to help the Crusaders take a 32-26 halftime lead. Schadrac Casimir and Tremain Frasier each had 17 for Trinity. Frasier’s dunk with three minutes left stretched Trinity’s lead to 58-45. Casimir was honored before the game for scoring his 1,000th-career point earlier this month.
Trinity returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Darien.The Crusaders also visit New Canaan next Friday.
