Teams Reach Stamford Tournament Final

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford American and Springdale reached the championship game of the Tournament of Champions in Little League baseball playoffs Thursday. The teams will meet for the TOC title on Sunday at 2 p.m. The site has not been announced.

Stamford American, represented by the Exchange Club, defeated National Lione, 2-1. Springdale, represented by Clairol , improved to 20-0 with an 8-1 win over defending champion Stamford Federal.

Stamford American pitcher Nick Frattaroli and Lione's Jay DeVito locked horns in a tight ball game. American pushed across the winning run in the fifth. Frattaroli had two hits for American, and Nico Laveris had one. It was the second straight one-run victory in the tournament for the Americans, who nipped North Stamford, 5-4, on Wednesday.

Springdale used the one-hit pitching of Mark Serricchio and Alex Colon to top Federal. Serriccchio struck out eight, walked five and did not allow a hit in five innings. Serricchio went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run and an inside the park home run.

Other offensive stars for Springdale included Zachary Putt ( 3-for-3, double), Jonas Harper (triple), R.J. Pascale (single, RBI) and Matt Tuccinardi (single). Catcher Nico Kydes made several nice plays and Springdale threw out two runners on the base paths.

Chris Rodriguez drove home Darin Harper for Federal's run in the sixth.
