Tarpey, who played at Fairfield Prep, became the first player in program history to record a triple-double in the Tribe’s 81-73 win over James Madison on Saturday. He was also named the league player of the week by the website College Sports Madness and shared the weekly league from the CAA with UNCW’s Freddie Jackson.

During the Tribe’s 2-1 week, Tarpey turned in a remarkable stat line, averaging 16.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, five assists, two steals and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 58.1 percent (18-of-31) from the field and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free throw line.

Overall this season, Tarpey ranks among the Top 5 in the CAA in six categories, leading the league in rebounding (8.1), blocked shots (1.6) and defensive rebounding (6.9). He is second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), fourth in assists (3.5) and fifth in steals (1.4). In league games, he is the only CAA player averaging a double-double at 15.3 points and 11 rebounds per game.

Tarpey started the week with a nine-point, 10-rebound effort in the Tribe’s 73-47 win at Drexel on Monday night. At Elon on Thursday, he  turned in a career night with 22 points and 13 rebounds

The 6-foot-5 junior capped the week with a historic triple-double against JMU. He poured in 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and a 6-of-7 effort from the free throw line, while pulling down 11 rebounds and dishing a career-high 10 assists.

The triple-double was the first in the 110-year history of W&M basketball, and Tarpey became just the seventh player in Division I to accomplish the feat this season.
