NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Iona College men's basketball head coach Tim Cluess has announced that Stamford, Conn., resident Schadrac Casimir has signed a national letter of intent to play for the team in the upcoming season.

"Schadrac is a jet-quick point guard with a great work-ethic and has proven he can score against top competition in both high school and prep school," said Cluess. "We're excited for him to join our program."

Casimir is a point guard, who played four seasons for head coach Mike Walsh at Trinity Catholic High School and a postgraduate year for head coach Kelvin Jefferson at South Kent School in 2013-14.

At South Kent last season, Casimir averaged 19 points per game and led the Cardinals to an 18-8 record and he was the No. 4 seed in the Class AAA tournament as well as a berth in the National Prep Championship.

He was a Second Team all-NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) player and scored more than 30 points against Brewster Academy, St. Thomas More and Northfield Mount Hermon.

As a senior at Trinity Catholic, Casimir was named First Team Class L All-State performer. He averaged 26.2 points for the Crusaders and had seven games with 30 or more points, including a 50-point effort against Greenwich. Casimir averaged 4.4 assists, 3.2 steals, and shot better than 50 percent from beyond the arc and 90 percent from the free throw line. He led Trinity Catholic to the FCIAC and Class L State finals.

Casimir also played AAU Basketball for the United Sons & Daughters program in Hamden, Conn.

He joins Najeal Young from Milwaukee as an incoming member of the Iona team.
