The Newfield Swim and Tennis Club held its annual Tennis and Aquatics Banquet on Aug. 7, celebrating the successful completion of its summer season. Newfield racked up three wins and three losses with a third place overall finish in Division 1 of Fairfield County Swim League, behind Roxbury Swim Club of Stamford and Rocky Point Club of Greenwich.
At the event, Newfield's annual Roger Dean Award was presented to Samantha Felder, 17, daughter of Helen and the late Louis Felder of Stamford. The Dean Award is named in memory of Roger Dean, a longtime lifeguard and Newfield supporter who tragically died young. This award honors a senior swimmer who has demonstrated commitment to the sport of swimming and to the Newfield Swim Club through dedication, perseverance, hard work and efforts to mentor younger swimmers for several years with the Newfield Seals Swim Team.
Felder has been a member of the Newfield Swim Team since age 6, participating in many league, divisional and county meets. She is a graduate of Bi-Cultural Day School in Stamford and attends Ramaz High School in New York City, where she is a rising senior.
