Springfield will play St. Joseph’s of Maine in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The Pride, 26-18, enter the Babson Park Regional as the No. 5 seed.

Springfield earned a tourney berth by defeating Babson, 6-2, in the final round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference tournament last weekend.

Joseph, a junior from Westhill, has been terrific for the Pride this spring. She has a 1.75 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 131 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting .216 off Joseph, who allowed four runs in 10 innings of work over two games in the conference tournament.

Part of her success can be attributed to her sister and battery mate, Elizabeth. A freshman, Elizabeth has started 23 games and is hitting .176 for Springfield. She is also the team leader in fielding percentage. She has not made an error in 24 games this season.
