Stamford North Rolls To District 1 Little League Crown

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford North completed its unbeaten run through the District 1 Little League tournament Tuesday with an 18-12 victory over Norwalk in the title game.

The Stamford players aim to keep their dream alive to reach Williamsport, Pa. and the Little League World Series in the Section 1 tournament beginning Tuesday, July 19 at Unity Park in Trumbull. It will play the District 4 winner in its first Section 1 game.

Stamford North went 7-0 in the District 1 tournament, using a mix of strong pitching and hitting. Stamford North, managed by Sean O’Connor, outscored opponents 73-41 in its seven-game run.

Tuesday night’s win was its most difficult. It built an 8-1 lead with three runs in the first and five in the second. But Norwalk kept fighting back, and Stamford North clung to a 12-11 lead after four innings. It put the game away with a five-run fifth, highlighted by Connor Sullivan’s grand slam. Sullivan mashed three home runs in the contest.

Stamford’s roster is James Lavelle, Jack Hoch Jr., Levi Lesack, Kyle Morrell, Aidan Nestor, Matthew O’Connor, Roderick Olspn, Christian Rubino-Chuckas, Max Savitt, Connor Sullivan and Ryan Zmarzlak. Jonathan Hoch and Robert Zmarzlak are also coaches on the team.

Stamford North also won the District 1 championship in 2015.
