STAMFORD, Conn. The Stamford American Legion Junior Division team plays Bethel at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Fourth-seeded Stamford plays No. 5 Bethel, with the winner moving on to the semifinals Thursday.
Stamford advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Niantic, 20-0, on Sunday behind the one-hit pitching of Peter Dawson. Stamford, 24-4, earned a first-round bye in the state tournament by winning Zone 4. Bethel also won its zone and beat Norwalk, 3-2 in 10 innings, in its first state tournament game.
The semifinals are also scheduled for Bethel at 6 p.m. Thursday. The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at Muzzy Field in Bristol.
