Fortt transferred to Cal after the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Pennsylvania State University. Fortt had 64 tackles in nine games for Cal, which finished 1-11.

Fortt played in 22 games at Penn State and sat out the  2012 season with an injury.  He was one of the 12 semifinalists for the Butkus Award this season. The award is given to the nation’s top linebacker.

An NFL scout said in the Metro.us report that Fortt could be a third or fourth round draft pick and would be a good fit for an NFL team that uses a 3-4 defense.   “He covers a lot of ground, from sideline to sideline,” the scout said. “He’s quick with good instincts. He’s a sure tackler.”

Norwalk’s Silas Redd (University of Southern California) and Kevin Pierre-Louis (Boston College) are also candidates to be selected in April’s NFL draft.
