Gold Coast also earned a third place as it competed against the best squads from across the country earlier this month.

"It was an amazing day for the entire Gold Coast family in Atlantic City,’’ Gold Coast co-owner Amber Wilson said. “All five of the teams we brought really rocked the stage and put on their best performances of the season.”

Gold Coast’s Youth Level 1 Whirlwinds earned a national championship and a Grand Level national championship.

The Youth Level 2 Mayhem won a national championship and a berth to the U.S. Finals in May, the third Gold Coast team to earn that honor. Mayhem is undefeated this season.

Junior Level 2 Chaos won first place national champions and a Grand Level national championship.

Senior Level 1 Haywire won a national championship, and Senior Level 3 Cyclones finished third in a competitive division.

National championships go to the top teams in their divisions, usually three to 15 teams. Grand champions produce the best scores of several divisions within a particular level.

Wilson was particularly proud of Chaos, which performed flawlessly despite being hard hit by injuries and illness.

“They won their division out of 10 really strong teams, crowning them national champions for the second season in a row,’’ Wilson said. “They also earned the title of Level 2 Grand Champions, meaning they were the best scoring Level 2 team of the whole competition, and they were given Grand Champion sashes. This team lives and breathes cheerleading, and it surely shows. They wowed the crowd.”
