The victory by Haywire, a Senior 1 team for girls ages 18-and-under, earned the team a chance to compete in the U.S. Finals in May.
Haywire won the Coastal Corporation Cheer and Dance Heavy Hitters Battle. Gold Coast’s Youth Mayhem team also won first place. Two other Gold Coast teams finished second and two more finished third.
Haywire’s team is Leah Rozumov, Christina Hiebogiannis, Isabella Hiebogiannis, Leah Blank, Sarah Baden, Jennifer Acevdo, Samantha Herrman, Samantha Velez, Ana Yoc, Anika Bjarnadottir, Nadia Bjarnadottir, Brittany Kellner, Olivia Borchetta, Audrey Niblo, Kelly DiPietro, Julie Mandell, Natalie Pesantez, Maren Hersam, Carissa Larriuz, Rachel Nelson, Diana Herrera, Ana Navarro, Colby Stalteri, and Avery Friedman. The team is coached by Tammy Thompson, Alexis Moy and Taylor Sechi.
"They did an outstanding job,’’ Thompson said. “The majority of our Senior team is made up of girls that have never cheered competitively before this season. Despite the fact that they are brand new to the sport, they worked really hard and were able to put out a routine with the maximum level of difficulty. They also worked very hard to improve their routine and it really came together on the floor. They hit a beautiful routine and as a result won a much deserved first place"
Mayhem stayed undefeated on the season with its win. Junior Chaos and Youth Whirlwinds finished second, and Tiny Pandemonium and Senior Cyclones finished third.
Gold Coast is home to nine teams Last year, four teams finished in the top 10 in final national rankings.
