Skyliners Skate In Stamford On Saturday

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The Skyliners Synchronized Skating team, which includes girls from many communities in Fairfield County, begins its season Saturday with a pep rally beginning at 4:15 p.m. at Terry Conners Rink in Stamford.

The pep rally is open to the public and features the only tri-state performance of all of the organization’s 11 programs. Admission is free. It concludes at 6:45.

The Skyliners are the most successful synchronized skating team in the region, with teams placing first or second in each participating line last spring at the 2012 Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championship. This year, the Skyliners junior and senior teams, which were featured on the "Today" show with an opening performance at the Ice Skating Rink at Rockefeller Center, have both been selected by the U.S. Figure Skating Association to represent the country internationally as Team USA.

Each of the Skyliners nine competitive lines will perform at the pep rally. The routines portray a range of themes and are set to a variety of musical genres from pop music to musical theater to classical.

Synchronized skating blends elements of individual freestyle skating, ice dancing and pairs skating into a tightly choreographed team event in which 12 to 20 skaters perform difficult maneuvers swiftly and in unison on an Olympic-size rink.

Each synchronized skating line registers to compete at a specific age and skill level prescribed by U.S. Figure Skating and the International Skating Union for regional, national and international competitions.

The top five lines of the Skyliners (senior, junior, novice, intermediate and juvenile) compete on behalf of the Skating Club of New York. The Skyliners’ pre-juvenile, preliminary, pre-preliminary and beginner lines represent the Springdale Figure Skating Club in Stamford.
