Stamford marched down to the Rams’ 1-yard line on its opening possession, but New Canaan stopped the Black Knights on four straight plays to keep them off the board.
That stop seemed to suck the life out of Stamford, as the second quarter alone saw the Black Knights turn the ball over four times. Cole Harris kicked off that string of turnovers and New Canaan’s scoring, stripping the ball from Stamford’s Jalen Brown and returning the fumble 35 yards for a touchdown.
“I know it says 35 points up there, but I thought defensively we did some nice things. Offensively, we just can’t score,” Stamford head coach Bryan Hocter said. “It’s just been our nemesis the past six weeks. We came up two inches short on that first drive and it was all downhill from there.”
After Stamford fumbled again on the ensuing kickoff return, New Canaan’s offense started to get rolling.
Louis Hagopian plunged in from a yard out to put the Rams up 14-0. Zach Allen then intercepted a pass from Brown on the next Stamford possession, setting up a 28-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Nick Cascione to Austin Read.
Teddy Bossidy, who splits time at quarterback with Cascione, added a 10-yard touchdown pass to Christian Miranda. Harris capped his solid night with a 2-yard touchdown run.
Stamford suffered more than just the loss, losing a pair of offensive linemen to potentially serious injuries from a roster that had already been depleted.
Stamford (2-6) has now lost six games in a row. The Black Knights host Brien McMahon High on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
