New Canaan’s Will McDonough won the overall series title in the men’s division, while Norwalk’s Julie Heaphy captured the women’s overall title.
McDonough finished second, followed by Helman Roman of Manchester, who competed in a hand cycle. Jacob Grice of Stamford was the third runner across the finish line.
Heaphy finished second in 1:46.26, and Sara Belles of Brookfield was third.
John Krasniewicz of Old Greenwich won the men’s 60-and-up division, and Sharon Vos of Old Greenwich won the women’s 50-59 division. Vos and Krasniewicz also won the overall series titles in their age groups.
The field was the third time this winter there was a record number of finishers in the four-race series. The old record for finishers in the 25k was 233, set in 2010.
Runners faced chilly temperatures but near-ideal running conditions on a challenging course that winds its way into New York state. The first eight miles feature tortuous up-hills, followed by a steep decline in the second half of the race.
