Redding Figure Skater Caps Season With 19th Place Finish At Worlds

REDDING, Conn. -- Redding's Brooklee Han completed an exciting year as an international competitor by finishing 19th at the World Figure Skating Championships this past weekend in Japan.

Han, an 18-year-old who competes for Australia, moved up a spot from the 2013 world championships, where she came in 20th. 

At the competition in Saitama, Japan, Han set a personal best in the short program, scoring 53.20 points as she skated to music "Prayer for Taylor" and the "Titanic Symphony." She came in 18th in that segment of the competition.

But Han had two falls in her long program, scoring a total of 91.08 points, skating to the music of "Secret." She came in 19th in this segment. 

Overall, Han scored 144.28 points for the 19th place finish.

The medal winners at the World Championships are: Mao Asada of Japan with gold; Yulia Lipnitskaya of Russia with silver; and Carolina Kostner of Italy with bronze. 

It has been a busy competitive figure skating season for Han. Since last fall, she has finished in eighth place at the Junior Grand Prix of Mexico, 11th at the Junior Grand Prix of the Czech Republic, fifth at Nebelhorn to earn a spot to go the Olympics, first at the Volvo Cup, and 14th at the Four Continents Championships.

Han is the reigning Australian ladies champion in figure skating. She is a 2013 graduate of Joel Barlow High School and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Australia.
