NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Youth Basketball Association and Chelsea Piers have reached an agreement that will allow the NYBA to host Saturday afternoon basketball games at the Stamford-based sports center this winter season.
“This is a great opportunity for our boys to play in a beautiful athletic facility and for us to host more basketball games during the winter”, said Matt McQuillen, who heads up the NYBA. “It’s all about increasing positive, extra-curricular activities for Norwalk youth and this is a perfect fit.”
“We are excited to have the NYBA hosting games at our facility and building a relationship with Norwalk Youth Basketball. We have a great facility and our basketball courts are a great fit for FCBL travel games,” added Brian Bertucci, Director of Basketball programming at Chelsea Piers.
The NYBA is a basketball association formed in 2009 to provide Norwalk boys an opportunity to participate in the Fairfield County Basketball League, the local travel basketball league. The NYBA fields teams in grades five through eight who will each compete in 20 to 30 travel games throughout the winter season.
The NYBA will continue to host Sunday afternoon games at the recently renovated Roton Middle School gymnasium as well. “This gives us greater flexibility in scheduling both Saturday and Sunday afternoon FCBL games throughout the winter and ultimately will give our players more basketball playing opportunities,” added Charwin Agard, the NYBA’s Director of Community Relations.
Tryouts for the 2013/14 NYBA season will be held in mid to late October and details will be announced this week. For more information on the NYBA, visit www.norwalkhoops.org.
