North Stamford Takes City Football Title

STAMFORD, Conn. — The North Stamford Raiders defeated the National Lione Giants, 28-6, in the city championship game for the Stamford Youth Football League Elementary School Division

Opening the scoring for the Raiders was Chris Della Jacono on a 1-yard run. Bobby Zmarzlak added a 30-yard run for a score, and AJ Laconna added a 25-yard score to close out the scoring for the Raiders in the first half. Bobby Zmarzlak also added a defensive touchdown by stripping the ball from the Giant quarterback and running it in for the final score. Noah Skaug added two extra points and led the offense throughout the day. 

The offensive line of Jonathan Nicolaisen, Joe Gambino, Keylii Hinton, Noah Fuchs, Kyle Yelensky and Cole Imbrogno opened up holes, allowing the Raider runners to go for big yards. 

Also adding big yardage for the Raiders was Cooper Brill on key runs. The defense was also outstanding, causing three fumbles and shutting down the Giant offense. Leading the defense was Matt Hallinan, Sam Pensiero, Dan D’Arinzo, John Giambalvo, Kyle Pearson, George Psichopaides, Ryan Scarvey, Sean Travers and Matt Vahsen.
