New Canaan's Max Pacioretty Elected Captain Of Montreal Canadiens In NHL

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Max Pacioretty, 26, a native of New Canaan, is the 29th captain of the The Montreal Canadiens franchise, nhl.com reports.

Max Pacioretty is the new captain of the Montreal Canadiens. Pacioretty was voted the 29th captain in franchise history by his teammates. P.K. Subban, Andrei Markov, Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher will serve as alternate captains this season.

Pacioretty has become one of the NHL’s top players in his seven seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. The left wing has led in scoring the past four seasons, which includes three 30-goal campaigns, highlighted by a career-high 39 in 2013-14. Pacioretty won the Bill Masterton Award in 2012 as the NHL player and he was named to play for Team USA in the 2014 Olympics, according nhl.com. 

Pacioretty played hockey as a freshman at New Canaan High before transferring to Taft School.
