The two organizations originally began their merger in early 2014 under the name Stamford Little League. Its board of directors recently voted to change the name to Stamford North Little League to better distinguish itself from other city hardball leagues.

“We are extremely excited to enter into the 2015 season as Stamford North Little League. Our board has been working very hard to make sure we show respect to our history and tradition as we blaze a new trail into the future,” said the league’s co-presidents, John Della Jacono and Jon Hoch, in a joint announcement. “Our merger has always been about providing a good experience for every kid and family in our community as we hope to instill the traits of Little League Baseball — character, courage and loyalty.”

Stamford North Little League serves children, ages 4 to 12, who live or attend school in the North Stamford and Springdale neighborhoods. These are generally defined as the area north of the Merritt Parkway, or east of Newfield Avenue but north of Fairland Street/Toms Road.

The schools in this area include: Northeast, Springdale or Toquam public elementary schools; Scofield or Dolan public middle schools; and Bi-Cultural Day, Long Ridge, Mead and Holy Spirit schools.

The league also announced it will hold two registration nights for new players wanting to join the spring 2015 season:

  • Feb. 9, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Turn of River Fire Department station, Buxton Farm and Turn of River roads
  • Feb. 10, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Springdale Fire Department station, 987 Hope St. across from the State Cinema.

More information on registration requirements and the league is available at the Stamford North Little League website.
