King Girls Basketball Outplays Greens Farms

STAMFORD, Conn. – King's girls basketball coach Jack Kelly calls his team “vertically challenged.” But with its quickness and experience in the backcourt, the squad’s lack of height doesn’t appear as if it will be a huge handicap.

King forced 29 turnovers with its aggressive defense and sprinted out of the gate with a 21-2 run in the opening seven minutes en route to a 39-20 victory over Greens Farms Academy in a Fairchester Athletic Association game at King. Tatiana Brown and Domonique Carter-Stanley, juniors from Norwalk, combined for 21 points and created havoc with their aggressive defense to spark the Vikings.

“Our defense will take us places,’’ Kelly said after watching the Dragons manage just eight field goals. “In the league, I think we can be pretty good. The thing with us is we can’t take a night off.”

Brown scored 11 points, seven of them in the first half, to lead King. Brown and Carter-Stanley also had multiple steals against Greens Farms' young guards, leading to easy transition baskets.

“We were coming off two games that we shot 25 percent, so it was good to get some layups,’’ said Kelly, whose team improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the league. “We still missed a lot of putbacks, so we have some work to do.”

Molly Goldstein added five points for the Vikings, and Ali Weiner had four. The Vikings return to the court Wednesday to take on Hopkins.
