FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Key games for seeding in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference girls basketball playoff tip off Thursday as the regular season winds down.
Westhill of Stamford (17-2 overall, 15-2 conference) can earn the No. 1 seed with a win over city rival Trinity Catholic (13-6, 12-5) when the teams meet at Trinity at 5:30 p.m. Trinity has already secured a conference playoff berth.
Danbury and Trumbull are all 15-2 and battling for the No. 2 seed along with Wilton (14-2) and Stamford (14-3). Wilton hosts Danbury at 7 p.m., with the Warriors riding a 14-game winning streak. Danbury has lost two of its last three games after starting the season with 14 straight wins. The Hatters fell to Trumbull on Wednesday, 42-36. Wilton has a makeup game scheduled for Friday against Bassick (1-14).
In other games that have implications on playoff seeding, Stamford hosts Darien, Ridgefield hosts Fairfield Warde and Staples hosts Trumbull. All three games begin at 7 p.m. Darien and Ridgefield have also secured league playoff berths.
Ridgefield’s convincing 68-41 win over Fairfield Ludlowe on Thursday locked up a playoff berth for the Tigers.
The first round of the league tournament is scheduled to tip off Saturday at the site of the higher seeded team. The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday at Fairfield Ludlowe. The final is Thursday at Ludlowe. The scheduled may be altered because of lingering snow removal difficulties associated with last week’s storm.
