At the start, the game had a lengthy delay due to lightning and heavy rain at the stadium in Williamsport, Pa.

And then the boys from Connecticut fell behind by the middle of the game, trailing Walla Walla, 5-2, in the fourth inning.

But Fairfield came back to score eight runs in the fifth inning, and they never looked back.

Fairfield's Christian Smith and Michael Iannazzo both hit home runs in the high-scoring game.

The victory means that Fairfield stays alive in the losers bracket and will play again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Jackson, N.J.

It's a rematch for the two teams: Fairfield defeated New Jersey 7-6, last Thursday in their opening game.

That game will be broadcast and online on ESPN.

The winner will play the loser of the game between Southeast and Southwest for a chance at the U.S. championship game at the Little League World Series.
