Darien Paddle Tournament Supports Stamford Hospital

DARIEN, Conn. -- The sixth annual Paddles With a Purpose in Darien helped raise $7,800 to benefit Stamford Hospital's Bennett Cancer Center.

The April 5 event took place at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien. All of the money raised will support programs and services provided by the Bennett Cancer Center to patients and their families, according to a press release. The event drew 30 teams comprising players from Fairfield and Westchester Counties.

"Each year the competition is elevated with some of the top teams having nationally ranked participants, yet there is always a good mix for all abilities, with brackets for all skill levels," according to the release. "A real camaraderie has developed among the players, most of whom come back year after year."

The winners were David Mueller and Mark Innes from Fairfield County’s Country Club of Darien, who edged Victor Dias and Alex Dias of Westchester County. 

"Special thanks to all who came out, and who donated to the fund-raising efforts, as well as to Wee Burn and Woodway Country Clubs in Darien," representatives said in the release.
