Trifone’s suspension lasts through Saturday, Oct. 15, when the football team is scheduled to play a home game against Brien McMahon High School, the Times said.

The school investigated the helmet-striking incident, which occurred Saturday, Oct. 1, in a game against Norwich Free Academy, the Darien Times said.

“As a result of the investigation it is clear that Coach Trifone struck a student on the helmet. As a result of this action, Coach Trifone has been suspended from his coaching duties through Saturday, Oct. 15. He will return to coach the team following the suspension,” said a release from the school district posted at the Darien Times website.

Darien High is the defending FCIAC and Class LL state champions in football. The team is 4-0 so far this season.
