Stamford's Casimir Named To All-Rookie Team In MAAC

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Danbury's Casey Smith and Stamford's Schadrac Casimir were named Monday to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Rookie team.

Smith is a redshirt sophomore at Fairfield University, and Casimir is a freshman at Iona College in New York.

Casimir, a 5-foot-10, freshman guard from Trinity Catholic, made 89 three point field goals, which tied for first place in the conference. He led all active MAAC freshmen in scoring during the regular season with 15.2 points per game and shot a league best 43.8 percent from behind the three point arc. He earned a conference high, eight MAAC Rookie of the Week honors in 2014-15 in route to being a unanimous choice to the All-Rookie Team.

Smith, a 6-foot-2, redshirt sophomore guard from Danbury, averaged 12.2 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, and added 27 blocks in her first season of collegiate competition while starting all 29 games for the Stags. She earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors six times this season.

Fairfield's women's team is the No. 3 seed for the MAAC Tournament. The Stags (14-15 overall) play their first game on Friday at 9:30 p.m. Fairfield will meet the winner of a game between Niagara and Manhattan.

Iona's men's team begins the MAAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed. It plays its first tournament game on Saturday at noon against the winner of a game Friday between Siena and Niagara.

The MAAC men's and women's tournaments will be played at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.
