Stamford went 2-8 this fall under Hocter, who ends his career at the school with a 15-14 mark. Stamford’s best season under Hocter was a 7-2 mark in 2011.

Hocter took over in 2010 after Kevin Jones resigned following the 2009 season. Hocter was an assistant on Jones’ staff for seven years before becoming head coach.

Despite heavy losses to graduation, Stamford started strong this season with wins over Harding and Norwalk high schools in its first two games. The season went sour from there, however, as the Black Knights lost their last eight games. Stamford’s season ended on Thanksgiving with a 20-6 loss to archrival Westhill High School, its first loss to the Vikings since  2007.

Hocter becomes the second coach from Stamford to resign. Trinity Catholic High School's Pete Stokes stepped down last week.

Stamford High Athletic Director Jim Moriarty said the school will begin a search for a new coach. He did not have a timetable to name a replacement. Hocter was not available for comment.
