Polonia, a pitcher, went 6-1 last year for the Crusaders. He has also been a standout on the mound for the Stamford American Legion program, which he helped win the Junior Division state championship in 2012.

Polonia, who was also a football star for the Crusaders, was the Fairfield County Interscholastic Player of the Year last spring for baseball. He had a 1.29 ERA with 57 strikeouts and just eight walks in 49 innings.

The University of Pittsburgh and Siena College in New York were also in the recruiting mix for Polonia.

At UConn, he will join a Fairfield County pipeline that has seen success with the Huskies. Matt Barnes of Bethel was selected in the first round of the  2011 Baseball Draft by Boston and joined the Major League team last September. L.J. Mazzilli of Greenwich also played at UConn and is in  the Mets organization.

Norwalk's Bryan Daniello and Greenwich's Taylor Olmstead are current members of the Huskies team.
