2 Stamford Wrestlers Take 2nd at Regionals

Bryce Kijek and Tommy Mazur of the Stamford Junior Wrestling Warriors each took second place at the recent New England Regional Connecticut March Madness Tournament.

Kijek was 3-1 on the day, winning with a 24-second pin, an 11-4 decision and an 18-2 technical fall. He then lost in the finals, 3-1, in the second overtime to Matt Knoll from Rhode Island.

Mazur was also 3-1 and had a great day as well, with two second period pins and then a 4-2 decision. However, Tommy took a tough loss in his finals, falling 9-0.

Tommy and Bryce also hit the 60-match mark, setting a Stamford Junior Wrestling single season record. Both wrestlers also won or placed in every tournament in which they competed this season. The boys will now start the hardest part of their year, when the Freestyle and Greco Roman seasons begins. Both styles are the most popular kinds of international wrestling and are used in the Olympics and world championships.
