Following opening remarks by Principal Camille Figluizzi and Cablevision emcee Kerry Donovan, Martin spoke briefly about the program and then, along with Cablevision Donovan, presented a check for $2,500 to Figluizzi to help further leadership activities at Westhill High School. Following the check presentation, the filming of the TV show began with Martin addressing the audience. He was then asked one question from each of 10 students regarding issues relating to public service and leadership, including what is the most difficult part of being a leader, what personal qualities make a leader effective, how does the education system in Stamford help prepare students to be effective leaders and more.
“The students here today did a wonderful job, and I commend them for asking such perceptive and timely questions,” said Martin. “Our future is in the hands of these young people, and I am confident that they will grow into responsible adults who will be involved in their community and aware of issues facing our local government. I’d like to also thank Cablevision for bringing this program to the students in our community.”
“It is important that young people are knowledgeable about current affairs and the workings of our government,” said Jennifer Ostrager, Cablevision vice president of public affairs. “We are pleased to bring programs such as ‘Meet the Leaders’ into the classroom to provide an opportunity for students like those at Westhill High School to meet and engage with community leaders like Stamford Mayor David Martin.”
