Volunteers Tell Tales, Share Stories In Stamford Elementary Schools

STAMFORD, Conn. – Professionals from area companies such as NBCUniversal’s Stamford Center, PepsiCo and Xerox recently volunteered their time reading to students at all 12 of Stamford’s public elementary schools.

The annual Business to Books Read-a-thon is a partnership of United Way of Western Connecticut and the Stamford Early Childhood Collaborative Bring Business to Books. It reached 2,800 students, according to a press release.

“The Business to Books Read-a-thon is a fun and educational event that both children and volunteer readers look forward to each year,” Kim Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut, said in a press release.

“We all win when young people thrive in school. United Way is committed to helping children achieve greater academic success.”

The Business to Books Read-a-thon started in 2002.

Other businesses participating this year included Deloitte, GE, Genworth, Greenwich Associates, Kelley Drye & Warren, Legg Mason, Nestlé Waters North America, Pitney Bowes, Preferred Brands International, Thomson Reuters, U.S. Trust, and Webster Bank.

All Our Kin, Domus, Stamford city officials, and Stamford Museum & Nature Center also supported this year’s effort.
