Sims, a bilingual social studies teacher at Turn of River Middle School, was honored at the Stamford Barnes & Noble location on April 15.
Officials also honored Jireh Sierra, the eighth-grade student who nominated Sims.
In his entry, Sierra wrote, Sims “knows how it feels to never give up no matter how difficult it is; that’s why I would prefer to spend a day with Mrs. Sims because she has inspired me to follow in her steps.”
Barnes & Noble staff members select winners based on the sincerity of the student making the nomination, the quality of writing, and the nature of the teacher’s qualities.
“Mrs. Sims is an extremely dedicated teacher, who consistently supports her students in many ways, both in and out of the classroom,” Brendan Fox, principal at Turn of River Middle School, said in a press release.
“She is well deserved of this recognition.”
Sims will now be entered into the regional competition.
