Stamford Teams Make It To World Finals Of Odyssey Of The Mind

STAMFORD, Conn.-- Working through the Stamford Youth Foundation, 10 Stamford teams that competed in the 34th Connecticut State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament went to the state finals with 160 other teams from around the state on March 21.

The winning teams will join other state and international teams in the World Finals at Michigan State University in May. The teams from Westover and Scofield/Rippowam placed first in their problem category, with Roxbury taking second place. A third-place finish was awarded to a second Roxbury team. The first-place teams both earned the Jill Riggles Award for Excellence for achieving first place in the spontaneous portion of the competition. 

Winning World Finals team members and coaches included: Scofield/Rippowam, Gold Medal, World Finalist; the winners of the Jill Riggles Award were Alba Alizoti, Annalise Fabricatore, Abby Guttman, Emily Sasser, Meredith Ford and Julia Kempton; coach Kim Kempton, Westover, Gold Medal, World Finalist; the winners of the Jill Riggles Award were Kayla Craner, Aiden Neigler, Luke Nolan, Jake Smith, Preston Smith, Brynn Spingola and Anika Tandon; coaches Marne Spignola and Tanya Anderson, SPS teacher Roxbury – Silver Medal; and World Finalist students were Tigist Aronica, Emma Burston, Caleigh Coughlin, Wyatt Lisack, Sawyer Neyer and Ali Pennella; coach Kelly Dibble, SPS teacher Roxbury; and Bronze Medal students included Aryan Donikena, Henry Figueroa, Anupriya Lulla, Jove Luna, Vanessa Montanez, Kathryn Priscott and coach Ken Martin, SPS teacher. 

Each team will embark on major a fundraising effort to offset the high cost of travel and expenses to Michigan. Donations can be made at www.SYFOM.myevent.com.
