STAMFORD, Conn. – The Stamford Board of Education decided in a meeting with attorney Tom Mooney on Tuesday, Dec. 2, that Schools Superintendent Winifred Hamilton will decide how to move forward with two Stamford High School administrators, reports the Stamford Advocate.

Hamilton will determine the outcome of an investigation into the failure of Stamford High School Principal Donna Valentine and Vice Principal Roth Nordin to report suspicions of an inappropriate sexual relationship between a student and an English teacher.

Valentine and  Nordin were granted accelerated rehabilitation at a court appearance last month by Superior Court Judge Richard Comerford. They were both arrested in October and charged with one misdemeanor count of failing to report an allegation to the state Department of Children and Family once they had learned a teacher, Danielle Watkins, was allegedly involved in a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student. Watkins also allegedly gave him and another male student marijuana.

Watkins was arrested in July. She pleaded guilty Thursday, Dec. 4, to felony charges of second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, reports the Stamford Advocate.

If Hamilton finds reason for either administrator to be fired, that recommendation will be voted on by the board. If she settles on a lesser punishment or none whatsoever, the Board of Education will have no part in the process.
