STAMFORD, Conn. — The students of Stamford’s Cloonan Middle School got out of the classroom Friday and got a workout instead with the school’s first ever Fitness Challenge.
Parent volunteers and teachers ran 10 stations at nearby Scalzi Park where kids had to perform specific athletic challenges, including hurdle-leaping, slalom-running, jump-roping and even Zumba dancing. There was also a nutritionist who taught kids about how to eat healthy.
The event also served as a fundraiser for the school, with the students receiving pledges for the participating in activities. About 600 students raised a total of more than $6,100.
All of the funds will be used to help put on programs and trips for the students throughout the year.
