STAMFORD, Conn. David Buitrago and many other low-income high school students in Stamford completed a nine-week SAT and college preparation course Thursday night. Instead of taking practice tests or studying, the kids celebrated with an awards ceremony and celebration.
The course, run by Lets Get Ready , was held at the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford . As a part of Thursdays closing ceremony, Gov. Dannel Malloy was on hand to congratulate and encourage the kids who took the course.
I am not trying to be an inspiration to you, but you are an inspiration to me, Malloy said, asking each student their college ambitions.
Lets Get Ready was founded in 1998 by Jeannie Lang Rosenthal to help high school students with the college application process and supply them with resources and guidance to score well on the SAT exams, the organization's website said. The coaches who tutor and mentor the students are all volunteer college students.
