Students invent new products or services that address everyday opportunities through the course of the contest.
AITE Business and Technology teacher Brenda Zanga leads Team Cassidy, a trio made up of students Cassidy Colosi, Jenny Millien and Alexandra Walker.
The group is a finalist for the IFRC Volunteer For Change category, which asked students to create an app that promotes volunteerism.
The team's submission was a concept for an app aimed at helping teens fight depression, suicide and bullying by providing access to video, text and audio chats.
Students submitted proposals in November, and judges selected the top 10 submissions in each category. From there, three finalists were selected.
Two winners will be selected in each category, one by a committee of judges and one chosen through online voting.
Voting is open until Monday, Feb. 9, online at innovation.nfte.com/projects/team-cassidy-project. Votes are restricted to one per day.
The winners will share $2,000, and each will get a prize of $500 for their school or nonprofit organization.
