Stamford Schools Support Agreement To English Language Services

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford School officials released a statement supporting a recent agreement with the U.S, Department of Justice to provide greater resources and services to English language learning (ELL) students

Superintendent of Schools Winifred Hamilton said the agreement "provides a comprehensive plan to effectively serve all students who are not yet proficient in English.”

Highlights of the agreement include the following:

  • Appropriate language services for ELL students with disabilities.
  • Additional support and training for personnel responsible for scheduling ELL services.
  • An inventory of and plan to purchase materials to augment the ELL program.
  • A system for monitoring recently exited ELL students.

“We agree that this agreement is aligned with the Stamford Public Schools’ mission to prepare each and every student for higher education and success in the 21st century,” Hamilton said in a statement.
