The playground will be one of 26 built to honor those from Sandy Hook in areas hit hard by Super Storm Sandy by the Where Angels Play Foundation.
The fundraiser ran from March 3 through March 24 with students, faculty and staff donating change in large water bottles.
“This was truly a community effort, and I am proud that the Stamford Public Schools are making such a generous contribution toward the next playground,” Superintendent Winifred Hamilton said in a statement. “I am especially grateful to the coordinators at each of our schools who volunteered to lead their school’s efforts and for their creativity in generating the enthusiasm that fueled such a successful campaign.”
The Stamford playground will commemorate the life of Jesse Lewis. A ceremonial groundbreaking will be held on May 2 with a ribbon-cutting on May 4.
