STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Public Schools students will now have to go to school on April 19, during the April Break because of Friday’s snow day.
Between the snow day and days off from Hurricane Sandy Stamford has used up all of its allotted number of days off before the most recent snow day. The schools also made arrangements to send kids to school on Veteran’s Day in order to make up for one of the cancelled days.
If there are any other days off during the year they will also be made up during the April Break, with the next one being made up on April 18.
Many voiced their opinions of the lost day of April Break on the Stamford Daily Voice’s Facebook page as well.
“In Vermont they make up their snow days on Saturdays. I'd rather do that so everyone can keep their vacations,” Angela Laskowski Garcia said.
“If they had to add, they should probably add the Monday instead of Friday so we could get it over with and give us a nice ending to the break. This kind of added day is not conducive to the flow of teaching,” Jen Monahan LeGreca said, “And teachers might be teaching to a half empty room, so she will have to repeat her lessons anyway,”
“I think they should start a couple of days sooner so when this happens they still get their vacations, and the cities need to do a better job snow plowing so the kids don't miss school. PUT some extras money in the budgets already!” Janice Zannino said.
“I can assure you teachers and families who have made plans for April vacation will not return for Fridays class. Especially if it can cost more to re-book flight plans,” Sal Buchetto said.
