Stamford Public Education Foundation Plans Excellence In Education Awards

STAMFORD, Conn. -- As the Stamford Public Education Foundation marks its second decade serving the Stamford community, it is on its way to mentoring nearly 750 students and giving away more than 4,000 books to elementary school students.

It’s all made possible from a variety of fundraising events, including the 2016 Excellence in Education Awards. Celebrating 20 years of excellence in education, the event will take place on Thursday, March 24 at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel.

Each year, the Excellence in Education Awards recognize businesses and community leaders for their commitment and service to education in Stamford. It is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and dedication of both Stamford’s business community and the devoted individuals who help our students perform better, both in school and beyond into post-secondary education and the working world. 

This year, SPEF will present the Leadership Award to one of SPEF's first Board Presidents, Robert Phillips, for his for his continued guidance and support to SPEF for the past 20 years. The Philanthropic Award will be presented to Fairfield County's Community Foundation, for its thought leadership and innovation in the area of education and its generosity in helping SPEF pursue its goal of making every child college or career ready.

The Educator Award winner will be nominated by school PTOs and announced the night of the event. The winner is recognized for their dedication in creating an exceptional learning environment for Stamford students 

“As a vibrant non-profit agency, SPEF enriches the lives of thousands of Stamford students through our nationally-recognized mentoring program, math tutoring, Work Study, Reading is FUNdamental Book Give-A-Ways, and more. This event, celebrating our 20th anniversary, lets us celebrate the many board members, volunteers, educators and funders who have come together to make SPEF an agent of change for the Stamford community,” said SPEF CEO Matthew Quinones. 

The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. The Sheraton Stamford Hotel is located at 700 E Main St.
