STAMFORD, Conn. -- As the Stamford Public Education Foundation marks its second decade serving the Stamford community, it is on its way to mentoring nearly 750 students and giving away more than 4,000 books to elementary school students.

It’s all made possible from a variety of fundraising events, including the 2016 Excellence in Education Awards. Celebrating 20 years of excellence in education, the event will take place on Thursday, March 24 at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel.

Each year, the Excellence in Education Awards recognize businesses and community leaders for their commitment and service to education in Stamford. The Philanthropic Award will be presented to Fairfield County's Community Foundation, for its thought leadership and innovation in the area of education and its generosity in helping SPEF pursue its goal of making every child college or career ready.

The Educator Award winner will be nominated by school PTOs and announced the night of the event. The winner is recognized for their dedication in creating an exceptional learning environment for Stamford students
