The Southport-based Near & Far Aid is an all-volunteer fundraising and fund granting organization dedicated to eliminating the causes and effects of poverty in Fairfield County.
“We accomplish our mission by finding and funding programs that provide life’s most basic necessities, as well as those seeking to achieve lasting change, as (the) mentoring program does,” said Joan Panagos, president of Near & Far Aid.
The Stamford Public Education Foundation's Stamford Mentoring Program serves elementary, middle and high school students in public school by providing academic and/or social support, officials said. It partners college, community and corporate volunteers with students.
The four primary objectives are help students set goals, improve their academic standing, become engaged in positive after-school activities and prepare for college, career training or full-time employment after high school graduation.
