Stamford High’s Online Student Newspaper Earns Gold Medal

STAMFORD, Conn. – The online edition of The Round Table, Stamford High School’s student newspaper, has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Annual High School Journalism Review.

The Round Table was critiqued by judges and received points in the following areas: essentials, which includes reviewing layout; contact information, credits, coverage and interactivity; verbal, which includes good reporting, use of quotes, journalistic writing, grammar and punctuation; and visual, which includes the use of images, art and layout.

The Round Table earned 910 points out of a possible 1,000 from Columbia.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our students,” said Stamford High School English Teacher and Round Table adviser Jon Ringel. “They are really stepping it up. This is a really professional and dedicated group of students, and it shows in their work.”

As part of the award process, the school receives a formal critique of its publication, which provides specific feedback and suggestions for improvement to consider going forward.
