Stamford Girl Charged In Westhill Bleach Assault

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford police have charged a 14-year-old girl for her suspected part in a bleach-throwing incident Monday at Westhill High School, a news release said.

Two freshmen girls got into a fight in the school’s gymnasium when one took out a bottle of bleach and threw it at the other, the release said. Four other girls watching the fight were also sprayed by the bleach, the release said. An investigation showed that the suspect had brought the bleach from home and had premeditated the fight, the release said. School resource officers and security guards at the school detained both students involved. Three students were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries related to being in contact with the bleach, the release said. One student suffered an eye injury; other injuries appeared to be “superficial,” and all the students have been released from the hospital, police said. The suspect was charged with first-degree assault, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, five counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, and five counts of risk of injury to a child, the release said. She has been sent to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center. Stamford Public Schools will discipline the students after police complete their investigation, said Sharon Beadle, public information officer for the schools.
