Shiloh’s essay is now entered for consideration in the Divisional Contest and will be judged against all other eighth-grade winners from the seven regional states.

“I am extremely proud of Shiloh,” said Cloonan social studies teacher Thomas C. Moulketis, who encouraged Shiloh to participate in the contest. “His essay is one of the best I've received over the years as part of the DAR competition. He is a fabulous young man who represents Cloonan, Stamford, and Connecticut in the finest way possible.”

The essay contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation's great history and learn about history in a new light.

The contest is open to all students in public, private, and parochial schools, and registered home-study programs, in the fifth through eighth grades.

Each year, a new topic is selected and this year’s topic was "A Child’s Journey through Ellis Island."

Shiloh will receive State recognition at the DAR Connecticut 122nd State Conference, which will be held at the Hartford/Windsor Marriott on March 27. Divisional winners will also be announced at that time.
