“Wright Tech. provides a 21st century technical education that empowers our students to be competitive in the job market and to be the backbone of a thriving Connecticut workforce,” said State Sen. Carlo Leone (D-Stamford).

“We worked hard on crafting a budget that includes this important funding for Wright Tech. Enrollment is growing significantly, and we needed to make sure Wright Tech has the resources it needs,” State Rep. William Tong (D-Stamford, Darien) said.

“I am pleased and excited that JM Wright Technical High School will receive additional state funds to expand to grade 10. Technical schools help prepare our students for real, 21st century jobs and I am grateful that more Stamford students will be able to take advantage of the state of the art programs offered at the school,” said State Rep. Patricia Billie Miller (D-Stamford).

“When Wright Tech re-opened this year, it provided students with another path toward a successful career,” State Rep. Caroline Simmons (D-Stamford) said.

“I have firsthand experience working in manufacturing for 37 years and these programs provide the skills and training to start a rewarding career in many different fields," said State Rep. Terry Adams (D-Stamford).

The school will require approximately 21 new full-time positions and five new part-time positions at an approximate cost of $1.25 million. Additionally $200,000 is required for additional educational supplies, textbooks, and equipment.

For fiscal year 2017, total enrollment at the school is expected to grow by another 150 students (bringing total enrollment to 450). Nine additional positions and equipment are required in fiscal year 2017, at an approximate total cost of $3.5 million, for the two new groups of students.

The delegation’s procurement of $1,466,234 in fiscal year 2016 and $3,516,042 in fiscal year 2017 to increase funding for the school means 300 students will have the opportunity attend Wright Tech.
