Padilla was a beloved 12-year teacher at Rogers International School who lost a battle with cancer in March 2012. She taught Spanish, bilingual and ELL and directed the school’s theatrical productions.

“Leslie was a very special teacher who made a significant contribution and positive difference in the lives of so many students,” Fox said in a statement.

He introduced legislation earlier this year to name a bridge in Stamford in her memory. HB 6328 was signed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

“I feel extremely proud to know that the State of Connecticut is honoring and recognizing Leslie, who dedicated her life to helping children reach their full potential,” Leslie's mother, Eva Padilla, said in a release.
