The appointment was announced by Winifred Hamilton, superintendent of Stamford Public Schools and the Stamford Board of Education.
Rivera has served as interim principal of the school since July of last year and served as assistant principal from 2004 through 2013.
Among her many accomplishments during her tenure in the Stamford Public Schools, Rivera developed a Senior Capstone Project at AITE to prepare seniors for independent college preparatory work; instituted a community service requirement for all AITE students to instill in them a sense of civic engagement; and created an advisory program to address the academic and social-emotional needs of freshman and at-risk students.
“I am pleased to name Tina as Principal and look forward to her ongoing energy and creativity in the coming years,” Hamilton said in a statement.
Rivera holds a master's degree in educational leadership, a master of science degree in exercise science, and a bachelor's degree in English, all from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
The Academy of Information Technology & Engineering is an inter-district, public, magnet high school located in Stamford. With a maximum enrollment of 650 students, AITE draws students from throughout western Fairfield County. The school offers a dynamic college preparatory environment that integrates 21st century learning expectations, world language acquisition, emphasis on global competencies, advanced information technology skills and knowledge, introductory courses in pre-engineering and architecture, and service learning.
All students and teachers are provided with wireless PC tablet computers that promote inquiry, creativity, and collaboration. Honors, advanced placement, college credit, and virtual high school courses are offered and available to all students. Admission is based on an application and lottery system.
